Authorities in Barcelona, Spain report that 12 people were killed and over 80 were injured in what is being called a terror attack when a white van ran down pedestrians for seven city blocks this afternoon (Aug. 17).

The incident occurred in the popular tourist center Las Ramblas in Barcelona. According to CBS News, two suspects have been arrested and a third died in a shootout with police. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack via its Amaq agency, according to the SITE Intelligence Group.

Following the tragic event, several musicians, celebrities and politicians, including former president Barack Obama, R&B singer Estelle, filmmaker Ava DuVernay and others went on Twitter to condemn the attack and express their condolences with the Spanish city.

"Michelle and I are thinking of the victims and their families in Barcelona. Americans will always stand with our Spanish friends. Un abrazo," tweeted Obama.
